This month I had the pleasure of hosting this year’s April Book Spine Poetry contest to celebrate a month of poetry. The Yale-NUS College Library has a poetry contest every April to promote and celebrate poets and their poetry and to highlight their importance in a creative and fun way. This is the third year that we have hosted a poetry contest; this year we chose to have a book spine poetry contest to share the love of the written word. The contest gives everyone a chance to step into the Library and browse the stacks to gain inspiration to write a poem.
There were 41 submissions of poems from students and staff who submitted unique and exciting poems. We had entries in both English as well as Spanish this year, which made this contest even more interesting. Thank you, Eduardo Lage-Otero and Amparo Espadas, for taking the opportunity to join us for this collaboration.
I also wish to thank our judges who worked diligently to find the cream of the crop – a big shout out to Bethany, Larry, Wern Hao, and Eduardo! I hope you enjoy the poems as much as I did.
Do stop by the Library to explore our growing collection.
