Interlibrary Loan (ILL) and Document Delivery Service (DDS) help Yale-NUS College faculty, staff, and students obtain materials that are unavailable in the Yale-NUS and NUS Library System. The system we use is called ILLiad.
To make a request, login to ILLiad using your NUS NetID.
Who is eligible to use ILLiad?
Yale-NUS College faculty, staff, and students are eligible to submit interlibrary loan and document delivery services using ILLiad.
What is the difference between ILL and DDS?
Yale-NUS College Library uses ILL (Interlibrary Loan) services to borrow books and other physical items from other colleges and universities around the world. The Library uses document delivery services (DDS) if you only need a chapter or an article from a particular journal. DDS requests usually come as PDF files from the lending library.
How much does it cost?
There is no charge to faculty, staff or students for any ILLiad request.
How do I make a request?
All requests should be submitted via the ILLiad platform. Login with your NUS NetID to get started!
How long does it take?
Delivery time depends on the availability of items at other libraries and the shipping method used. DDS requests usually arrive in 3-5 business days; however, more obscure article/chapter requests can take 1 month or more.
ILL requests that can be filled in Singapore or through Yale University usually arrive within 1 week. Items coming from overseas can take 2 to 8 weeks to arrive.
What can’t I request?
The Yale-NUS College Library does not accept requests for items available for checkout in the NUS and Yale-NUS Library System (including print journals). You may, however, place ILL requests for items that are checked out or those with RBR status.
Other items that may be difficult to request through ILL:
- Periodical volumes less than five years old (instead, request individual articles)
- Reference books (instead, request individual entries)
- Audio/visual materials
- Bulky or fragile items
- Extremely old books
- Books on reserve, including textbooks
- Rare or valuable material such as manuscripts
